Alfa Romeo’s secret Group C car.
As good news never comes alone, the Museo Storico Alfa Romeo in Arese accepted my request to photograph a stillborn car, the SE048SP, an amazing abandoned project from the 90s.
The Alfa Romeo SE 048SP was to be Alfa’s response to the new Group C regulations of the early 90s.
Within the Fiat group, Abarth was responsible for developing the chassis. The engine came from the Procar 164 project: a 3.5-liter V10. Unfortunately, the prototype does not participate in any competition.
However, with Ferrari fully on the Formula 1 program and Lancia involved in Rallying, Alfa was THE brand that could ask for Fiat in endurance racing. Finally, the leaders of the Italian group decided that the budget should go into the programs of DTM and BTCC. Considering Alfa Romeo’s success in these super-touring events with the incredible 155, it might have been a good decision
Can not thank enough the Museo Storico Alfa Romeo for this great opportunity and their trust for letting me shooting such a piece of history.
